VWF Stacey Abrams

The Vermont Women’s Fund will hold its 2024 Annual Celebration on Tuesday, October 8 at the University of Vermont’s Davis Center featuring special guest Stacey Abrams, an expert on voter engagement and a former legislative leader in the Georgia House of Representatives. She is also the author of numerous books, including the New York Times best seller “Our Time Is Now.”

The celebration will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and will be emceed by Vermont Public’s Jane Lindholm, with music provided by Myra Flynn. The Women’s Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation is a statewide nonprofit whose philanthropic mission is to advance and achieve gender equity in Vermont.

A lawyer and voting rights activist, Abrams is a champion of women’s rights and measures to equalize the playing field so that access to power is not determined by zip code or income. She is the winner of the National Civil Rights Museum’s Freedom Award and in 2018 was the first African American woman to be nominated by a major party to run for a state governorship.

“Stacey Abrams has worked to empower women in politics, the workplace, and the voting booth. Throughout her trailblazing career, she has made it a priority to work for structural changes that protect and enhance women’s rights,” said Emily Bush, director of the Women’s Fund. “We are thrilled to welcome her to Vermont in October.”
