Our hearts go out to the people across Texas who are reeling from devastating flooding. Torrential rains and rising rivers have displaced families, claimed lives, and left homes, schools, and businesses underwater. Many communities remain without power or clean drinking water, and recovery efforts are just beginning.
In Vermont, we know how much community support matters in the wake of disaster. After the floods of 2023 and 2024, support from people around the country allowed the Vermont Community Foundation to quickly get funds out the door through the David R. Coates Fund for Vermont Disaster Relief to affected communities. Now, we want to offer some guidance to those who may be interested in helping our neighbors in Texas.
We’ve connected with peer community foundations in impacted areas, knowing firsthand the critical role they play in quickly distributing funds, meeting urgent needs, and filling gaps where federal resources are unavailable or delayed. The community foundations and organizations listed below are all 501(c)(3) nonprofits eligible for gifts from donor advised funds at the Vermont Community Foundation.
