Michael Monte Honored with 2016 Con Hogan Award

The Vermont Community Foundation and the organizing committee for the Con Hogan Award for Creative, Entrepreneurial, Community Leadership are pleased to announce that Michael Monte, Chief Financial and Operating Officer of the Champlain Housing Trust (CHT), has been chosen as the winner of the 2016 award.

The $15,000 award was presented to Monte at a reception on October 5, 2016 at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier.

Established by a group of his colleagues, the annual award recognizes the life’s work of Con Hogan by rewarding a community leader who shares his vision of a better Vermont and who seizes the responsibility for making that vision a reality. The award is given to a leader who shows deep community involvement, generosity, enthusiasm, a collaborative approach, and a focus on data and outcomes in his or her work.

Michael Monte serves as Chief Financial and Operating Officer of CHT, having joined the leadership team in 2007. He has more than 30 years of experience in the community and economic development field. Before coming to CHT, Monte was a founder of Burlington Community Land Trust and was a board member for Lake Champlain Housing. He worked at Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO) from its creation and was its longest serving Director. He is also a founder and partner of the independent community development consultant group, Burlington Associates.

The committee noted that Monte shares Con Hogan’s ability to make a difference by implementing creative solutions to real-world problems. Monte’s impact on Burlington, his work to transform Vermont’s response to homelessness with model ventures, and his ability to lead with humor and kindness were key reasons for his selection.
