The Vermont Community Foundation is proud to support the statewide tour of Every Day: Big and Small, a new documentary celebrating the people who strengthen Vermont communities through everyday acts of connection and care.
The film shines a light on Vermonters who are fostering belonging, resilience, possibility, and joy in their communities every day.

During the floods of 2023 and 2024, Vermonters witnessed neighbors coming together to support one another through difficult times. Every Day: Big and Small uses those moments as a backdrop to remind us that, every day across Vermont, people are lifting each other up, bridging divides, and creating places where others can learn, grow, and experience a sense of belonging.
Through a series of short stories and vignettes, the documentary celebrates people who are making a positive impact through small acts that can make a big difference. These stories remind us that strong communities aren’t built by any one person or institution alone, but through the everyday choices people make to care for one another and work together toward something larger than themselves.
The film features Vermonters ranging in age from eight to their 80s and offers a window into spaces where connection is built across the state, including a teen center helping young people find a sense of belonging; a farm centered on Black solidarity and joy; an older Vermonter and her housemate, finding friendship and understanding across cultures and faiths; a lively dance class for people living with Parkinson’s disease; a group of girls building their own airplane; a celebratory drag show at the Elks Club in Rutland; a writers group for people in substance use recovery; a military museum run by a 13-year-old in his backyard; a space where foster families can access free clothing and support; young women making a difference in agriculture; a men’s group focused on compassionate communication; a horse farm serving people with PTSD; and celebrations of Vermont traditions, from the Barnet mud bog to fiddle playing in Hardwick.
At its heart, Every Day: Big and Small is a film about the power of community. It celebrates the everyday ways Vermonters show up for one another, overcome challenges, and create meaningful change. Together, these stories remind us that even small acts of kindness and generosity can help build a stronger, more connected Vermont.
