The Vermont Community Foundation Welcomes Molly Walsh as a Research and Insight Officer

Molly Walsh 2021

The Vermont Community Foundation has hired Molly Walsh as a Research and Insight Officer.

Molly joins the Community Foundation after more than thirty years covering Vermont as a newspaper reporter, spending the majority of that time at The Burlington Free Press, and most recently working for five years at the weekly newspaper Seven Days. Her byline has appeared on news stories about affordable housing, childcare, water quality, climate change, racial justice, education equity, land use, and scores of other issues impacting the state. She began her writing career at the Snowmass Village Sun in Colorado and worked as a researcher at USA TODAY in Washington D.C., before moving to Vermont. She is co-author of the book, "Vermont Country Roads."

"I am honored to join the Vermont Community Foundation and bring my research and writing skills to an organization that is committed to making the state better for all," says Walsh. "In my work as a journalist, I traveled Vermont north to south and learned so much from the people I interviewed. I came to believe that Vermont could advance solutions to difficult problems if we research and communicate them so the public has a fuller understanding of the role they can play. I’m thrilled to continue telling the stories of Vermonters at an organization committed to the public good here in our beautiful state."

In her new role, Walsh will be producing content for the Community Foundation’s newly launched Insight Hub, which offers webinars, events, briefs, and peer-to-peer experiences to provide philanthropists with actionable insight on where their giving can make a difference in Vermont.

“One of the reasons that people choose to give through the Community Foundation is our ability to inform and deepen our collective thinking on pressing issues in Vermont,” says Felipe Rivera, chief of staff and vice president for strategy and communications at the Vermont Community Foundation. “Molly strengthens our ability to make donors’ giving meaningful to them and responsive to the needs of the community.”

Walsh earned a bachelor's degree in French from the University of Minnesota. She is the mother of two grown daughters and lives in Burlington. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, hiking, and roaming the stacks in used bookstores.
