The Most Promising Jobs campaign is a longtime partnership between the McClure Foundation and the Vermont Department of Labor to identify and promote the high-pay, high-demand jobs projected for Vermont and the educational requirements needed to obtain them. The centerpiece of the campaign is the "Vermont's Most Promising Jobs" brochure, which identifies over fifty occupations expected to have at least 500 job openings over the next decade and pay above the state median wage. Individuals and organizations can request free copies of the brochure, access digital translations of the brochure, and be referred to resources for students and jobseekers at www.mcclurevt.org/pathways.

Through the Most Promising Jobs campaign, the McClure Foundation also provides mini-grants to schools and community-based organizations to help young people plan and prepare for life after high school. Schools and organizations across the state are using these mini-grants to support existing or new career exploration activities and programs, enhance flexible pathways like work-based learning and dual enrollment, develop locally relevant materials that promote promising career pathways, cover transportation costs associated with college visits, and more.

Notable Recent Grants at CCV

Promise to the VT High School Class of 2020

Funding for 2020-21

Our funding supported tuition and fees associated with a free course at CCV for every member of the Vermont high school class of 2020. Announced in June 2020 with the help of Governor Scott, this initiative generated a significant increase in the enrollment of recent high school graduates at CCV at a time when new enrollment was plummeting nationally. Read a fact sheet about this initiative.

Occupational Credentialing Programs

Funding for 2018-19 through 2020-21

Our funding supported the development of flexible, online occupational credentialing programs serving Vermonters who need targeted skills and credentials to move ahead in their careers.

Prison to College Pathway

Funding for 2017-18 through 2019-20

Our funding helped launch CCV's ReSET VT Program, a promising initiative to offer college courses and advising to men incarcerated at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. In large part due to the early successes of that program, CCV was awarded a Second-Chance Pell grant from the federal Department of Education in 2020 to continue and expand their incarcerated education efforts in ways that will lead to significant improvement in access to college and career training for Vermonters experiencing incarceration. With support from the federal grant, CCV will continue offering college courses in the Northern State Facility with hopes to expand the work.

Enhanced Student Advising

Our funding will support enhanced training for all Coordinators of Student Advising at CCV, a new role that focuses on advising and supporting student success.
